Our Story

Who is Monsieur Sable?  Monsieur (Mr or Sir in French) Sable is none other than Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable, Founder and 1st Permanent Settler of the area now known as Eschecagou  (Chicago).  He was described as a good looking, well-educated family man. Sable was born in Saint-Domingue (Haiti) and made his way to the British colony of Quebec where he settled on the banks of the Chicago River near Lake Michigan.  

Monsieur Sable was an explorer willing to take risks and step outside of the box. He journeyed into unknown, uncharted territory to set up a successful trading post in the pre-dawn era of a new republic.  As a true entrepreneur and trail blazer unwilling to wait for anything to be given to him, he took each opportunity by the reins and tamed it to his will.  

This entrepreneurial trail blazing attitude is what we envision for all our supporters, as we journey to universally invoke the spirit of Monsieur Sable and his core values: Family, Community, Life Learning, Entrepreneurship, and Fearlessness.
